A CRUCIAL six-pointer awaits Evesham United according to manager Paul West when they look to play their first game for three weeks at bottom-placed Weymouth on Saturday (ko 3pm).

Third-from-bottom Robins travel to the Dorset coast after their last three Zamaretto League Premier Division clashes have been called off due to frozen pitches.

Following the postponements of the Chesham United and Salisbury City home double-header, Evesham’s trip to Brackley Town last Saturday also fell foul of the weather.

Now, West’s side hope for a turn in the weather, and their league fortunes, as they look to play their first game since a 2-2 draw with Chippenham Town on November 16.

Saturday’s opponents Weymouth prop up the division on eight points but West says the Bob Lucas Stadium side stil have a rich pedigree.

West said: “People will see the game as a six-pointer but we’ve got to pick up points wherever we can.

“Weymouth are on a poor run just like us but they still have some good players. Hopefully we can play the game this weekend as it’s a trip we don’t want to rearrange for a midweek.

“They used to be a Conference Premier side so they are still a force.

“The atmosphere is good within the dressing room.

“Are we good enough to win enough football matches to stay in this league? Yes, I think we are.

“The weather has been frustrating but it’s been the same for everyone else too. We’ve had three Saturday games postponed in a row now but we have still been training on the 3G pitch at Stratford.” The club is running a coach to Weymouth, departing from Evesham High Street at 9.10am.
