GOALKEEPER Nathan Vaughan han has given Evesham United a huge boost by becoming the latest player to commit his future to the club.

The Robins shot-stopper, named supporters’ player-of-the-season, has signed a new two-year deal to join several of his team-mates in signing new dealss.

Captain Wayne Daniel, Craig Wilding, James Blake, Kevin Spencer, Mark Hands, Calvin Dinsley and striker Marcus Palmer are just some of the players manager Paul West has persuaded to re-sign.

But a delighted West insists tying down Vaughan is one of his most important pieces of pre-season business, after interest from rival clubs.

The United manager says he hopes to sign up seven new players during the summer as he looks to bolster his squad, who finished 12th in the Zamaretto League Premier Division this term.

West also hopes to commit United’s three Ghanaian players, leading scorer Isaac Shaze, David Accam and Samuel Mensah to similar deals.

Vaughan’s re-signing is the latest boost for the club, as they prepared to move into their new £2 million home in Cheltenham Road, after five seasons playing outside the town at Worcester City’s St George’s Lane ground.

West said: “I’m delighted Nathan has signed a new deal, he has been here as long as I have been manager.

“He has consistenly been our best player.

“It’s very important that we keep this squad together. Securing our league status with a few games to go gave me a bit of time to talk to the players about staying.

“We had a lot of competition for Nathan, but you do want other clubs to be wanting your players, in a way, as it shows we’re doing something right.

“We’re trying to push forward now. We don’t have a lot of pennies to play with, but it's important we spend them wisely.

“We’ve signed up a number of the squad for next season, but we can’t rest on our laurels.

“It was crucial that our season did not fizzle out.”
