BOSS Paul Collicutt is confident defender Matt Bennett will remain at Evesham United despite interest from Cirencester Town.

At the end of the week that the Robins swooped for Centurions striker Ben Whitehead, their Southern League West rivals hit back with a move for ex-Shortwood United skipper Bennett.

The approach was received on Friday but following a weekend phone call between Collicutt and Bennett, it seems the latter will be staying put.

“Matt gave me the impression he did not want to go,” said Collicutt.

“When I called on Sunday to discuss it he said ‘I cannot see myself going anywhere’ which was just what I wanted to hear.”

Meanwhile, United's under-18s tackle the biggest match in the fledgling careers tomorrow night when their Shrewsbury Town couterparts visit in the FA Youth Cup first round proper (7.30).

Admission at the Jubilee Stadium is £3 for adults and £2 for concessions.
