NEW signing Miki Servera has received a glowing reference from former Worcester Wolves captain Alex Navajas.

Managing director Mick Donovan said he had spoken to Navajas who reckoned his former teammate Servera would be a "great success" in the British Basketball League.

Navajas left Wolves this summer to join French side L'union Lourdes-Tarbes Pyrenees Basket.

“When we spoke to Alex he gave us extremely positive feedback about Miki as a player and a person," Donovan said.

"He believes that he will be a huge success in the league and as a part of Worcester's basketball community.”

Servera's career began at Basquet Mallorca in the LEB Gold at just 16 before finding himself at Unicaja Malaga towards the end of the following season and represented the club in a Euroleague game.

During that time he also played in the successful Spanish national teams from under 16s level through to under 20s.

The 6ft 5in guard then moved around LEB Gold and Liga ACB sides including UCAM Murcia and Tecnyconta Zaragoza and spent last season at Melilla Baloncesto.

Servera, 26, said: “I am so excited to be part of the Worcester Wolves. I cannot wait to start working with the team and to show my Basketball ability in England.

"I’m sure it’s going to be a good season and that we can achieve great things.”

Wolves' advisor Dr Alejandro Vaquera added: “Miki is a very effective and versatile player who can play the one, two and three positions.

“Offensively he has the ability to shoot from long range and penetrate the defence, whilst also being very strong defensively.”
