DIRECTOR of rugby Alan Solomons has described Worcester Warriors’ new owners as “good blokes” who want “the best” for the club.

Solomons said he had a “brief chat” with “enthusiastic” former Swindon Town chairman Jed McCrory and his consortium after they bought the Premiership outfit for an undisclosed fee on Monday.

Speculation had been rife over the future running of Warriors after Sixways Holdings Limited put the club up for sale in September last year.

Solomons stressed that discussions over the ownership had not impacted on his squad but was pleased that a deal had finally been struck.

“The fact that it has been put to bed as there had been talk about it is always a positive thing as one can just go forward,” Solomons said.

“I am absolutely positive about what has happened and Jed and all the chaps with him seem like good blokes and want the best for the club.

“I think it will be a positive thing for Warriors.”

Solomons also thanked Sixways Holdings Limited, who were represented on the board by Greg Allen for their backing, as he was able to strengthen his side with 11 signings over the summer.

“From the rugby department’s point of view we have had excellent support from the Allens,” Solomons said.

“They have now moved on and Jed and the others have taken over and I am 100 per cent positive about it to be honest.”

As the Worcester News reported, chairman Bill Bolsover said McCrory would be the “driving force” behind the new ownership.

McCrory’s consortium comprises of Errol Pope, who is the primary funder, Scott Priestnall and former Sale Sharks and Saracens player David Seymour.

“I have met Jed briefly but he seems like a really nice guy who is enthusiastic and motivated,” Solomons said.

“He wants to do things for the club, the city and the county so happy days.”

On Seymour, Solomons added: “I met him and we had a good chat.

“He seems like a really good guy and he understands the game as he played about 180 games for Sale.”

Solomons said he showed the new owners around Sixways but insisted the focus was on Warriors’ battle with Bristol on Sunday (3pm).

“To be honest we had a very brief conversation,” said Solomons on what was said in the meeting.

“This (takeover) has just happened and we have obviously got to focus on Bristol this week.

“Once Sunday is done then we can focus on what comes next.”
