ALAFOTI Fa’osiliva is expected to miss the rest of Worcester Warriors’ season with a suspected anterior cruciate knee ligament (ACL) injury.

The Samoan international was forced off just 16 minutes into Worcester’s 23-7 home win over Pau in the European Challenge Cup last Saturday.

Director of rugby Alan Solomons described Fa’osiliva’s injury as a “tragedy” as it came when he touched down for Warriors’ second try.

The 33-year-old who has made just six appearances this term had also recently recovered from a calf issue.

“It doesn’t look good to me,” Solomons said.

“It looks like he has done his ACL but we have got to see how this whole thing pans out.

“During the course of this week we will get a clearer indication but if he has (injured his ACL) that will be long-term, certainly as far as this season.

“He has just come back from that calf injury that kept him out for ages and he scored a really good try.

“I think he did exceptionally well and it was a tragedy that he went down.

“He is a good bloke and an invaluable member of the squad but that’s rugby.”

Solomons said fly-half Jamie Shillcock was also due to see a specialist tomorrow (Wednesday) over his ankle injury. The 21-year-old was spotted at Sixways wearing a protective boot after sustaining the blow in the 21-6 loss at Pau.

“Of course it is a concern,” Solomons said.

“But we will only know the truth of the matter once the specialist has had a look at the scans and given his view.”
