PAST and present Worcester Warriors stars showed their touch around the greens when they took part in Chris Pennell’s rain-hit testimonial golf day.

Despite the wet weather, 20 teams featuring the likes of club legends Jonny Arr, Alex Grove and Pennell turned out at Redditch Golf Club.

Ex-Warriors boss Dean Ryan and life president Cecil Duckworth also braved the conditions along with teams representing the Testimonial Partners, Worcester Bosch, EBC Group, Matthews Construction, Gemini ARC, Jane Murrant and a number of local businesses.

A group from the host club came out on top with a stableford score of 89 points ahead Worcester Bosch (88) and Myson Radiators (87).

Pennell said: “Credit to everyone who supported for heading out into the pouring rain for the shotgun start at 1.30pm after enjoying bacon rolls, tea and coffee in the warm!

“The golf course held out superbly well and everyone commented on the quality of the course, particularly the greens.

“Once warm, dry and changed and after a delicious two-course meal the winners on the day were presented with their prizes.”

Pennell also thanked people for supporting his chosen charities Acorns Children’s Hospice, Diabetes UK and The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust.

A total of 360 guests are set to attend Pennell’s final testimonial event, called Worcestershire Sourced, at Sixways on Friday, June 28.
