COINCIDING with the Cheltenham Festival is a celebration of contemporary Irish art at the Red Rag Gallery in Stow from this week.

Crocuses at stately home

SPRING is bursting into bloom at Ragley Hall with the arrival of the crocuses on the Spring Bulb Bank. The gardens are now open at weekends from 10am to 6pm, while the house and state rooms are also open on Sundays from noon to 4pm.

Red Arrows to star at show

The Red Arrows will perform at the Cotswold Air Show on June 19, which is being held in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund. The arrows were based at RAF Kemble, now Cotswold Airport, in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. In addition to the Red Arrows, the show includes an RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Team Viper Strikemaster jet aircraft, the Yakolevs display team and the Swift Glider Aerobatic Team. Textile artist’s exhibition

A TEXTILE artist is exhibiting her latest work at The Theatre, Chipping Norton, this month. Wendy Hughes has produced Fragments, an exhibition that runs from tomorrow until March 24. Wendy lives and works near the town producing items that cross the line between fine art and textile design. Her work also includes wearable accesories such as hats, fascinators, bags and jackets.

Chance to learn painting

Exhibition of sculpure

THE Gallery at Bevere, near Worcester, is bringing together six sculptors to brighten up Febuary. New exhibitors Michael Flynn, Mo Jupp and Claire Murray are joined by returning sculptors John Maltby, Emma Rodgers and Christy Keeney for Figuratively Speaking. Illustrator exhibits

AN exhibition by award-winning illustrator Tony Meeuwissen finishes this Saturday at Stroud’s Subscription Rooms. Tony, a Stroud resident for 30 years, has adorned postage stamps, Penguin book jackets and V&A-commissioned cards with his intricate and witty designs which have delighted viewers for decades. Festive ceramics exhibition

Lots to do at Armouries

Guild of craftsmen

work from the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen will be shown at Court Barn Museum in Chipping Campden. Fine Sparks offers visitors a chance to admire or buy work from the guild, which was founded in 1933. Feltmaker Anne Rogers, bookbinder Christopher Rowlett and glass artist Amanda Lawrence will all be showing their work. The exhibition runs until Sunday and entry is free.

Artist is back from Africa

WORK by Inkberrow artist John Harris is on display at the village’s pavilion. The painter has just returned from exhibiting in Dubai, Oman, South Africa and Kenya. The display is open until 9pm today and from 10am-6pm tomorrow.

The Yellow Hat Tribe

THE three Rs will dominate the latest Yellow Hat Tribe art exhibition at Brookfield Ostrich Farm Gallery at Church Westcote, near Stow. The 3Rs exhibition – in this case rucksacks, rambles, rivers – opens tomorrow and runs from 10am-7pm daily on the following two days and then from 10am-5pm daily until Monday, December 21.The Yellow Hat Tribe is the creation of Irene Tyack, who began painting at the age of 50 after being inspired by her husband’s tales of Africa. Doodling on the envelope of a bill she could not afford to pay, Irene drew a picture of a tribe living in a desert and all wearing yellow hats.The intervening 10 years have seen Irene sell many of her Yellow Hat Tribe paintings, which cost up to £20,000 each. This latest exhibition will see the tribe exploring their local area and wearing subtly different clothing.

From Greece to Worcester

Work by Japanese painter

AN exhibition of paintings inspired by the Cotswolds will be in Cheltenham later this month. From November 27-29, Japanese artist Takumasa Ono will show watercolours, screen prints and pictures created using traditional Japanese brushes. Proceeds from the event will be given to the Friends of the Cotswolds. Mr Ono said: “I love the Cotswolds and have always enjoyed trying to capture the beauty of this landscape and I’m looking forward to establishing a new partnership with the Friends of the Cotswolds.” The paintings will be on show at the Cotswold Grange Hotel, in Cheltenham.
