Classical concert at abbey

THE Worcester Philharmonic Orchestra will play at Pershore Abbey on Saturday with pianist Janine Smith. The programme includes Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No 1 in E Minor. The concert starts at 2.30pm and tickets cost £10 or £8 for concessions. They are available from local tourist information centres or on the door.

Guitarist’s charity gig

ONE of the all-time great guitarists will be at Worcester’s Huntingdon Hall on Saturday for a performance in aid of the charity Scope. Mick Taylor is famed for his days with the Rolling Stones and John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, with whom he recorded the classic albums Bare Wires and Blues from Laurel Canyon. He will play with his All Star Band, which includes musicians who have worked with the likes of Van Morrison, Chris Rea, Kate Bush and Manfred Mann. Tickets cost £17.50. To book call 01905 611427.

Rock’n’roll show is back

BACK by popular demand, That’ll Be The Day – billed as Britain’s most successful touring rock ‘n’ roll show – will be at Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre next week. Ultimate battle goes on

BREAK Through Silence will take on Black Acid Band tomorrow night in the next heat of The Ultimate Battle competition at Evesham’s Railway Hotel. Winners of the heats on February 12 and 13 were Age and Seria Mau respectively. There will also be a U2 tribute band performing at the High Street venue on Saturday evening.

Launch of dance classes

JIVE and rock’n’roll classes for beginners start at Wulstan Hall, Priest Lane, Pershore, tomorrow. The classes will look at single-time jive, rock’n’roll style and triple-time jive. Organisers say the dances are easy to learn and the classes are suitable for singles or couples of all ages. Classes will run for six weeks, and cost £4.
