This Morning’s resident agony aunt Denise Robertson has said she is finding her cancer treatment “tough”.
Hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby updated viewers on the progress of the 83-year-old ITV favourite.
Holly said: “We’ve got a bit of an update for you, Denise sent this message to us on Friday and we just want to pass it on.”
She then read out the note from Denise in which the much-loved television veteran said: “I just wanted to say how moved I am by all the cards, letters and emails.
“The love and good wishes expressed have made me realise what This Morning means to people, we are a family and it’s really doing me good. I’m having chemo, so it’s a bit of a tough time, but I’m fighting and being treated beautifully by the wonderful staff at the Royal Marsden.”
She added: “I couldn’t be in better hands. Thank you so much everyone and I hope to be back on that sofa soon.”
Holly added: “Not as much as we hope you’ll be back on this sofa soon that’s for sure Denise. Stay well.”
“Yes. Lots of love,” Phillip said.
The announcement about Denise’s cancer battle was made on the ITV show in February.
“I’ve been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It has come as a surprise to me and my family but we know that many others have suffered and dealt with this condition and I don’t plan to give up without a fight,” she said at the time.
“My doctor is referring me for chemotherapy and hopefully that will start soon. I’d like to thank all the lovely viewers of This Morning who have been concerned about my health recently.”
Denise joined ITV’s This Morning for its first ever broadcast in 1988. She also has her own advice website, and has written a column for Candis magazine.
