A NEW theatre company will stage its first production, The Hound of the Baskervilles, at the Swan Theatre in Worcester next week.
Here to There Productions Limited was created with the aim of performing a variety of different theatrical genres in various locations throughout the West Midlands and on tour around the country.
The company’s ethos is to give amateur actors an opportunity to work with professionals and to perform in, and stage, plays and musicals which are usually outside the radar of local amateur dramatic companies.
Their first production is a comedic spoof of Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic Sherlock Holmes story, created by the comedy team Peepolykus and features just three actors playing all the parts.
But the play still stays faithful to the Conan Doyle story.
When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate, with the look of terror still etched on his face and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective, Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street, with Dr Watson in tow to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death and investigate the ancient curse of The Hound of the Baskervilles.
Director Andrew Whittle is delighted to have the opportunity of staging the play at The Swan Theatre.
Andrew, who lives in Little Witley, said: “I am delighted that the company’s first play is going to be performed in Worcester.
“It is a very funny adaptation of a classic tale and should appeal not only to Sherlock Holmes fans, but also to those who enjoy fast-paced modern comedies.
“The play was first staged at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds in 2007 and it then toured nationally and internationally, including a run in the West End.
“The tour missed Worcester so I hope that as many people as possible in Worcester will enjoy seeing this play being performed.”
The Hound of the Baskervilles runs at the Swan Theatre from Thursday to Saturday, February 7 to 9 at 8pm.
