A YOUNG entrepreneur from the Cotswolds who has a passion for cars has been making waves in the auction world.

Ben Mather, of Saintbury, near Broadway, set up his Mather Collectable Motorcars earlier this year, after spotting a gap in the market for a Cotswold-based vehicle auction. His first sale of vintage, classic and modern cars, held at the Lygon Arms Hotel, in Broadway in April saw 11 of the 15 cars snapped up.

Now the former Chipping Campden School pupil is hoping his second sale at the same venue on Sunday will be just as successful.

“My first auction was a nerve-wracking experience but thankfully it went really well,” said the 22-year-old.

“It’s really good. Eight weeks ago I didn’t have one car for this auction but between then and now 15 cars have just come out of nowhere.

“It’s the positive feedback that’s kept it going. Everyone’s saying they think it will work. There’s been a lot of interest which is good news.”

Mr Mather was inspired to start his own business after working at Bonhams, London, last year.

“I’ve always wanted to have my own business,” he said. “I’ve always been pretty obsessed with cars. It’s been part of my life since I was young. I didn’t know I wanted to work in the auction world until I went to Bonhams. The whole atmosphere of an auction, I just fell for it really.”

The auction is taking place at 2pm on Sunday. There will be a preview on Saturday from noon to 7pm and on the morning of the sale before the auction.
