THIS giant specimen may be the biggest pumpkin in the Vale of Evesham, weighing in at about 200lbs.

The giant squash is on display at the Hampton Farm Shop, Pershore Road, Evesham, after being bought at auction by the store’s owner Chris Groves for £41.

He said: “My scales only go up to about 35lbs but the guy who grew it said it weighed about 200lbs.

“It came from the Evesham market. I made a bid for it and ended up getting it. I thought it was a bit of fun. I have been here for 20 years and it is the biggest we have ever had. It took four blokes to lift it at the market but two of us managed here.

“I am not sure what to do with it now, but it is a great conversation piece. One of the girls that works here is determined to carve it but I am thinking about auctioning it for charity.”

The Evesham pumpkin has some way to go to beat the UK record which is currently 1,504lbs and even further to break the world record of 2,009lbs, credited to a grower in America.
