PLANS for 39 homes described as “crummy and cheap” have been deferred by councillors.

The proposed estate off Banks Road in Badsey, near Evesham, have already been approved at the first stage of the planning process but developers were seeking further approval for the appearance, landscaping, layout and scale.

But councillors on Wychavon District Council’s planning committee, which met last Thursday, were less than impressed by the scheme.

Councillor Reg Jakeman, ward member for Badsey, said: “I do not like the layout and I do not like the design. I cannot support this but I would like to see this deferred to go back to the developer to ask for a new layout.”

Coun Judy Pearce added: “I sent an email saying I thought these houses look pretty crummy and cheap. I still think that about them. I think we owe it to our residents to try to obtain high quality design. I think we need to talk to officers and say to people this type of design isn’t acceptable.”

The application was unanimously deferred by councillors on the committe.
