THROUGH your letters page I would like to say a huge thank you to the Journal for covering the fund-raising event I held on what would have been my husband Peter’s 71st birthday (Journal, September 26).

This event was supported by the producer and team at ITV’s Coronation Street who sent a blouse worn by the character Hayley Cropper, who in the series is dying from pancreatic cancer.

I am so pleased to be able to tell you that the blouse was auctioned on Facebook and raised an amazing £110 and the person who bid up to £100 also sent her bid monies.

The event raised a huge £2,200.30 in total and was supported by over 100 family and friends and the Abbotswood Medical Centre in Pershore.

The cover you gave the event resulted in many people sending donations for the fund and as it is so important to raise awareness of the symptoms of this cancer to aid early diagnosis, which is the only way to save lives.

I thank you on behalf of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness and myself.

The statistics haven’t changed in 40 years so every penny counts.

Thank you.
