MYSTERY surrounds why Sky customers lost their broadband and phone services for more than 24 hours last weekend.

Sky Broadband and Talk customers in Evesham, Pershore and Worcester had their services cut off between Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon.

A spokesman for the company said the problem had been caused by a worker cutting through a cable while carrying out roadworks near one of their exchanges.

But BT Openreach – which owns the cable network used by Sky – said it was unaware of any major incidents.

Virgin and Talk Talk also said they had received any complaints from customers about losing their connections.

People across the county immediately turned to Twitter to investigate their lack of broadband.

A message from Steven Wathen said: “@SkyHelp- Team are there fibre broadband problems in Worcester?

My connection has dropped, have done all checks and it's not dodgy wiring.”

Katie Widdop wrote on Facebook that her connection went down at about 11am on Saturday and came back on Sunday afternoon.

She said: “The worst part, of course, was Sky ignoring it and not giving any info.”

Some customers reported being told over the phone by Sky that the service would be down for around four hours but no further updates were issued.

Naomi Clarissa North on Facebook said: “Sky said they had to make repairs due to ‘significant damage’ but didn’t say what was damaged.”

Sky started answering customer help tweets on Monday afternoon saying services should have been returned to normal.
