DRUGS worth up to £600,000 were discovered in a huge cannabis factory in Evesham town centre.
More than 700 cannabis plants were found growing in a flat above the Railway Hotel in High Street. The cannabis was said to be part of a professional enterprise.
Detective Inspector Neil Austin said: “This is a largescale commercial enterprise with more than 700 cannabis plants ranging from seedlings to mature plants.
“The estimated street value would range up to £600,000.
Our enquiries are continuing to trace the people behind this operation. No one has been arrested to date.”
DI Austin added the police were delighted to have uncovered such a large-scale operation, preventing a large quantity of illegal drugs from being distributed.
“We carried out the search warrant following intelligence about suspicious activity at the address,” he said.
An Evesham resident, who wished to remain anonymous, watched the search on Tuesday at about 10.30pm while waiting to collect her son from the railway station.
She said: “My niece lives in St Mary’s Road and she said the police had been there all day.
“They were carting stuff backwards and forwards and there were officers in forensic overalls.
“All the lights were off in the building but they were taking photos inside because there were flashes going off.
“The police officer told me it was a drugs factory. It looked like it may be the biggest one in West Mercia.”
