I’m proud of hero son

THE father of injured army captain Guy Disney, who has completed his second Walking with the Wounded challenge, has spoken of how proud he is of his son.

The Broadway soldier whose right leg was amputated below the knee after his vehicle was blown up in Afghanistan, finished the South Pole Allied Challenge last Friday. After four weeks and 200km, the teams arrived at the South Pole at 12.48pm and Dr John Disney, of Guiting Power, said he had spoken briefly to his son.

“He was able to phone on the cell when he got there,” he said. “Obviously we are very proud that he has managed to do both poles. When I spoke to him he sounded OK.

“Before he went he was up for it because he had done an awful lot of training. “It was hard for all of them because it was at altitude.”

Capt Disney is expected to return to the UK with the rest of the group, which includes Prince Harry, on Monday.

Speaking at the South Pole Prince Harry said: “We’re here – I am about 10 metres away from the Pole. It’s an amazing feeling, it really is.

Every single one of these 12 deserves it.

“But I’m so proud, I’m so chuffed and I’m so privileged to be here with all these guys and girls... what an amazing accomplishment.”
