'Think before calling an ambulance' plea
PEOPLE in the West Midlands are being asked to think if they really need an ambulance before calling 999.
The West Midlands Ambulance Service received up to 3,000 emergency calls every day, only 10 per cent of which are life-threatening.
Those unsure if they need urgent care can visit a walkin centre or call their GP to arrange an out-of-hours appointment. Calls can also be made to NHS Direct on 111 for more advice.
Following these steps will free up ambulance control rooms and paramedic crews.
