BATSFORD Arboretum’s Leaves For Learning Schoolroom Appeal has been given a welcome boost following a festive raffle.

Over the past three months, staff have been selling tickets for the grand Christmas draw, which has boosted funds by nearly £1,600.

The popular attraction, near Moreton, is already more than half way towards its £40,000 target after launching the appeal to build a schoolroom in August.

As previously reported, the new wooden education room between the visitor centre and the Applestore will mean children’s education programmes can be extended and also make courses available for adults.

The raffle was drawn by Santa Claus at Batsford’s last Festive Friday event before Christmas.

First prize was a children’s shepherds hut, worth nearly £3,000, with a second prize of a spa day for two at the new Dormy House Hotel and Spa.

Third prize was a night’s bed and breakfast for two at the Noel Arms Hotel, followed by a mini pamper pass for two at the Cotswold House Hotel and Spa, both in Chipping Campden.

Stuart Priest, operations director, said he was overwhelmed by the quality of the prizes and the businesses’ generosity.

“It takes us another step closer to being able to start work on our fabulous schoolroom which, once complete, will give us the opportunity to extend our education programmes and give us the flexibility to hold adult courses and events too.” he said.

Batsford already educates people about nature and each year nearly 700 primary school children take part in nature days led by gardener Mr Rotavator.

Donations to the appeal can still be made online. For more information, visit justgiving.
