THIRTEEN was a lucky number for Evesham Rotary Club when it presented this number of cheques to local charities following its Tree of Light appeal.
The appeal, now in its 15th year, has raised £170,000 in that time and this year managed to give out£18,000 to 13 charities as it broke all previous fundraising records.
Treasurer Martin King said: "This is a fantastic achievement especially during these times of austerity."
The 13 charities represented at the function held in the Town Hall were, Acorns Children’s Hospice, County Air Ambulance, Aphasia Trust, Caring Hands Across the Vale, Evesham Mind, Garage Art Group, Mayor of Evesham Charity Appeal, Ourside Youth Association, Riverside Shopmobility, St John Ambulance Brigade, St Richard’s Hospice, Vale Volunteer Centre, Working World and Wychavon Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
Tony Haugh, chairman of the Tree of Light Committee, added: "I am delighted with the ongoing generosity shown by the people of Evesham and the Vale. This is allowing us to continue to support many charities and people within our own community."
