AN untidy part of Evesham station has been given a much-needed spruce up thanks to a band of dedicated volunteers.

Ten members of the Cotswold Line Promotion Group (CLPG) met on Saturday to tidy up scrub land at the Worcester-bound platform which had become overgrown.

They collected about 20 bags of rubbish including a tyre, and cleared away the ivy from the railings and bridge on the High Street side.

Jill Haycock, the Evesham representative on the CLPG, said: "We were absolutely thrilled especially with the good weather. We got more than we thought we would get done.

"It was just a tangle of old bits of trees and twigs as a result of the storms and lots of very interesting rubbish. We're very satisfied and looking forward to the next gathering to do more work.

"Any more volunteers will be very welcome."

CLPG has a number of volunteer groups working along the Cotswold line which maintains the stations including Honeybourne, Pershore, Kingham, Moreton and Charlbury.
