THE next mayors coffee morning in Pershore will see money raised for the Sreepur Village charity helping destitute mothers and their children in rural Bangladesh.

The event, on Saturday, March 29, is being hosted by Charles Tucker at the Town Hall from 10am.

But anyone who pops along will not only be supporting the charity, but can also learn about its history and links to Pershore.

The charity's link with the UK began in 1981 when Pat Kerr, a British Airways stewardess, visited an organisation set up by Canadians.

This first home needed to be replaced and her boss at BA, Gerry Devereux, became involved. A plan was drawn up and a purpose built home outside the city was developed.

Since that time both children and their mothers have been welcomed, assessed and benefited from many programmes to educate, train and look after their health and the project has been renamed.

Now Pershore has a direct link with Sreepur Village through Green Lids, the Fair Trade Hats business run by Kirstie Chippendale in the town.

Last summer the charity took out the pattern for a cotton sun hat and has returned with Green Lids first order of 50 hats with a further order of kids hats to come.

At the coffee morning next Saturday both Kirstie and Ruby will be on hand to talk about the work they do.
