WORCESTERSHIRE’S fire service has given its support to this week’s UK Road Safety Week which is targeting four main groups of road users with the slogan Be Safe Out There.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have joined fire services from across the county to deliver messages to promote the issues facing cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians and young drivers.

Ade Elliott, Group Commander of the county’s service, said the service works closely with other agencies to promote road safety throughout the year.

“Fire crews attend many road traffic collisions across the two counties and similar to other Fire and Rescue Services, we tend to get called to the more serious incidents, so road safety always sits high on our agenda,” he said.

“Deaths and injuries on the road affect not just the individual – the lives of families can be destroyed by losing a loved one, or changed forever by having to care for a family member with life-changing injuries.

“UK Road Safety Week gives us another opportunity to highlight road safety, and we hope motorists will heed these messages.”

Mr Elliott urged road users to Be Safe Out There and to take note of the key messages of the safety week.

The messages warn cyclists to get noticed by wearing hi-visibility vests and helmets, motorcyclists to keep hydrated, pedestrians to look out, listen up and be aware, and young drivers to be smart and keep their eyes on the road.
