THERE is still time to apply for Wychavon District Council's First World War centenary grant fund.

The grant fund of £5,000 is to help community groups, schools, parish councils and other local organisations commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.

There is a maximum of £250 per project on offer and the funds must be used for events that both contribute to and involve the local community in some way.

One of the projects already been awarded funding is Prince Henry’s High School and their year-long remembrance. Part of project involves a play performed by the Quantum Theatre group called Your Country Needs You.

Charlton Church has also been granted funds to assist with their exhibition of World War One where artefacts will be displayed in the village hall and a talk given by a local expert.

Tracy Grubb, community development officer at Wychavon, said: "We’ve had some really creative and inspirational project ideas come in so far and we’ve been only too happy to support them with funding.

"We want to encourage more groups to come forward with their ideas for a community commemoration, whether it’s a drama performance, an exhibition inspired by or commemorating soldiers from the local village or town, or a poetry class or a remembrance event."

For the full details of how to apply, call Tracy Grubb on 01386 565168 or email tracy.grubb@wychavon.gov.uk.
