Sun shines down on West Fest revellers

MUSIC lovers flocked to Malvern on Saturdays to enjoy an afternoon of live music, thanks to the volunteer organisers who put on the annual West Fest.

And this year's event was certainly a summer success, with the sun shining down on revellers all afternoon while some of the finest performers from the local music scene provided sounds both mellow and rocking.

Headlining on the main stage were popular favourites Black Heart Angels, who topped a line-up that also included Boy and Bicycle, Clumsy, Hump da Bump, the Matt Woosey Band and Miss Pearl and the Rough Diamonds.

The main stage took turns with the acoustic stage, which hosted sets from talents such as Appleby Kinsey, Flatworld,

Lounge Toad and the Malvern Hillbillies.

And the Andy Dakin stage, which was added to the event last year in memory of one of West Fest's founders, provided

a venue for various community acts, including the Chase jazz band, children from West Malvern's own primary school, and performers from the Malvern Cube community centre.

There was plenty to do as well as listen to music, with stalls selling crafts or promoting local good causes, and lots of entertainments and games for children.

And for those who got hungry, local traders provided delicious fare ranging from doughnuts to burgers, while tipplers enjoyed the West Fest Ale, created specially by Malvern Hills Brewery.

John Brook of West Fest said: "I think we had about the same number of people as last year, about 2,500, and it was a really good festival. All the bands play for free, and we want to thank them and all the volunteers who make it possible.

"This year we had for the first time the Seventh Malvern Scouts organising the car parking and we want to thank them for doing a sterling job."
