A MAN had to be rescued from the river Severn in Worcester by fire crews and was then taken to hospital.

The rescue happened on Wednesday at around 11.23pm when a male was pulled from the water by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service using a sled and throw lines. Police also provided support.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We were called at 10:10pm after cause for concerns for the safety of a man. The man was recovered from the River Severn by the fire service and taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, though no known injuries were sustained. During the rescue, Cripplegate Park side road was closed."
