THIS October the NSPCC in Worcestershire is asking everybody to go green to help raise money for its ChildLine Schools Service in the county.

The service helps to educate local children about abuse before it starts.

Between October 13 and 18 the campaign, which has been backed by the green ogre, Shrek, will be trying to raise money to carry on the service's work.

The NSPCC wants as many local people as possible to host green-themed events and money raised will enable the charity to extend its ground-breaking ChildLine Schools Service into schools across the Worcestershire.

Using specially trained volunteers, the service will deliver sensitively tailored workshops and assemblies to nine to 11-year-olds to educate them about abuse, how to protect themselves and where to get help if they need it.

So far they have reached 9,636 children but need more support to visit the remaining 103 schools in the region that need this service.

Deborah Chandos-Hall, NSPCC head of midlands fundraising said: “It’s fabulous that beloved swamp-dwelling green ogre Shrek has lent his support to this worthwhile campaign.

"As someone, who obviously loves being green, he will hopefully inspire others to join in the fun. You can Go Green in any way you like, as long as it's green, you can do it."
