VALE businesses have been helping each other out in a bid to improve Evesham Rowing Club.

The club, formerly members only, is currently undergoing a regeneration after opening its doors to the public.

As part of the plans to improve the look of the building a deal was struck with Evesham based Karndean Flooring, which is providing around £2,250 worth of flooring for free.

The flooring, which is being fitted by Pershfloor, a Pershore flooring company, for a cut price, will go in the club's sun room.

The room is set to be refurbished to a high level and the club has also ordered in new aluminium tables and chairs.

Dave Hoskins, the bar and functions manager at The Boathouse at Evesham Rowing Club, said they were very grateful to both companies.

"The club is currently undergoing a 'regeneration' of sorts after recently opening its doors to the public after solely being a members only establishment," he said.

"The club and Karndean have done business in the past whereby Karndean fitted flooring in the club's function room, which is still in great condition years and years later.

"We are carrying on that history, as Karndean has very generously just provided the club with around £2,250 worth of flooring for free.

"We believe the refurbished room will add greatly to the club's aesthetics and popularity as a wedding or party venue, even more so than it currently is.

"We would like to thank Karndean and the fitter and show what an excellent local company Karndean are and how the club has great links with them."

But the businesses generosity doesn't end there as they have donated £2,000 to the Children with Cancer UK charity, as part of its employee of the year award scheme.

Karndean warehouse supervisor, Greg Zyszczyk, was nominated by fellow colleagues for the award, which included a cash donation to a charity of the winner’s choice.

Attending at the charity’s head office in Great Ormond Street, Mr Zyszczyk and managing director Paul Barratt presented Nilly Sutton, senior corporate partnerships manager, to present the donation.

Ms Sutton said: "We rely solely on donations to fund research to discover less toxic drugs and provide vital support for families affected by childhood cancer."

Mr Zyszczyk chose the charity as he and his wife support a similar cause in Poland.

"Children with cancer UK was an easy choice for me," he said. "They do not get as much publicity as some other organisations and it felt only right that they should receive this contribution."
