A PUB in Worcester has had its licence suspended following violent disorder which led to three arrests.

The Bush in St John’s had its licence suspended by police today after officers from Worcester applied for the review of the premises license of the Bush public house, St John’s, Worcester under Section 53A of the Licensing Act 2003 (Premises associated with serious crime or disorder).

The outcome was a decision to remove the Designated Premises Supervisor and to suspended the premises licence with immediate effect. A full hearing will take place within 28 days.

Superintendent Kevin Purcell, Policing Commander for South Worcestershire said. "We very rarely seek immediate reviews under this particular legislation.

“However due to circumstances of a very serious incident in these premises, the need to protect the public and ensure law and order, on this occasion, it was absolutely the right action to take.

“Three men have been arrested in connection with a violent disorder within the premises and are currently on police bail whilst a charging decision is sought from The Crown Prosecution Service.

My staff have a first class relationship with our license premises, most of whom are part of the Worcester Against Night-Time Disorder scheme.

“This scheme run by the pubs and clubs, works closely with the council and police to create a night time economy which is vibrant, safe and enjoyable.

However I am clear that we will take, whenever required, robust steps to ensure that license premises are safe, even if this means on occasions we need to seek review under the Licensing Act 2003.

The owners of the Bush public house are aware of these actions, did not dispute the review and are supportive of West Mercia Police seeking to ensure such an incident is prevented.”
