NURSERY school youngsters have one of the poshest playhouses in the Vale thanks to a donation from Persimmon Homes house builders.

Evesham Nursery School, in Four Pools Lane, has received the £1,000 windfall as part of the developer's community champions project, which will see a pot of £24,000 being given to support local groups and charities over the next 12 months.

Persimmon has a development at Blossom Fields, off Cheltenham Road in Evesham and was keen to support the nursery with its plans to improve facilities and develop its outdoor learning environment.

Staff and Governors have been actively fundraising to raise money to build a bespoke log cabin in their meadow. The cabin will be a very special and versatile place that the children can use in all weathers throughout the year. The cabin will have guttering and a water butt on the surrounding decking, which the children can use to water the meadow flowers.

Marian Gager, headteacher at Evesham Nursery said: “It feels like Christmas, thanks to Persimmon's generous donation. The governors and staff really appreciate such generosity and know that all of our children will benefit significantly from this funding.”

Andy Peters, from Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said the community initiative was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.

He said: “We are very proud to hand over this donation to Evesham Nursery, an extremely worthy cause and look forward to seeing their new facilities in the near future.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.

Andy said: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re urging groups and charities to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
