THE final results of a two-year fundraising campaign to repair a much loved bell tower are almost ready to be revealed.

Stonemasons have been working for the past three months repairing the exterior of the 14th century tower at St Peter's church in Abbots Morton, near Inkberrow, following a massive response to halt its decline.

The final touches are now being put to the work which is scheduled to be finished on September 18.

More than £43,000 was raised by a public appeal to fund the work at the Grade-1 listed church, which dates back to the 12th century. Chairman of the fundraising committee, Colin Pemberton, said: "It's very exciting that the wraps will soon be off and we'll all be able to see how the bell tower has been secured for future generations. We've been overwhelmed by the generosity of people, raising the money ahead of schedule."

St Peter's Parochial Church Council is now planning a special service of dedication and thanksgiving later in the autumn.
