A MAN has been formally charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in Worcester.

Police have charged Iain Farrimond, aged 53, with attempted murder following the stabbing in Battenhall Road last week.

Farrimond is due to appear at Redditch Magistrates Court this afternoon.

We reported last week how Battenhall Road neighbours first became aware there was incident in their leafy suburb when they awoke to see a police presence last Thursday.

West Mercia Police were called to an address in the road at 5.54am, and detained a 53-year-old suspect.

A police spokesperson said at the time: "A 53-year-old woman was taken to hospital with stab wounds. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"A 53-year-old man has been arrested. He was also taken to hospital with stab wounds, which are not believed to be suspicious."

The Worcester News understands the two are known to each other, and were being cared for in different hospitals.

A reporter went to the scene this morning, and saw two officers guarding the entrance of the property, which had birthday cards and a balloon in the window.

Two vehicles were parked on the driveway of the property, a Peugeot and Vauxhall.

There were also two police vans and two police cars parked outside, while forensics officers were spotted carrying bags of evidence from the semi-detached house. Another officer interviewed neighbours about the incident.
