A PERSHORE woman will be taking part in an epic challenge to raise money for a breast cancer charity.

Sally Turner will be trekking the Inca-paved paths of Peru this March, as part of the challenge organised by Breast Cancer Care.

The Inca trail challenge is aiming to raise £3,750 for the charity, which supports people affected by breast cancer to get the best treatment, support and information.

The 55-year-old was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer following a routine screening mammogram.

She initially had a mastectomy on one side, a lumpectomy on the other followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Two years later she had a second mastectomy following a scare.

Ms Turner described it as "like a time bomb going off" and said the charity played a significant role in the recovery, so wanted to give something back to them.

“I’m approaching five years cancer free and feel fit and well." Ms Turner said.

"I have wanted to walk the Inca Trail since I fist saw pictures of Machu Picchu many years ago. By doing it this way I will truly feel I have achieved something worthwhile.

“Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far, I’m looking forward to the challenge and hope to reach my fundraising target.”

Steve Grogan, from Breast Cancer Care, said: “We’re so grateful to Sally for taking on this incredible challenge for Breast Cancer Care and wish her the best of luck.

“The money Sally raises will help us provide care, support and information to help thousands of people to find a way to live with, through and beyond breast cancer."
