WINNERS have been announced in a competition to design the front cover for a carnival programme.

A host of colourful entries flooded in for Pershore Carnival's Children's Programme Competition and the top three have now been picked.

Taking first place was eight-year-old Evie Handy, of St Barnabas CofE First and Middle School in Drakes Broughton. Her creative design is featured on the programme's front cover.

In second place was Ciara Hanks, aged eight, of the Holy Redeemer School in Pershore, followed by fellow pupil Samuel Mardle, also aged eight.

Little Evie said: "I couldn’t believe I had won, I couldn’t stop smiling."

The competition was hosted by Pershore Library and entries were based around the carnival's theme – 'The World of Music'.

Charles Tucker, programme manager, said: "We're really grateful to Pershore Library for hosting the event and for short listing the entries, and of course to all the children that took part."

The winners have been invited to join the Winners' Parade as part of the Carnival Procession.

The programme has been delivered to Pershore households during May and will be on sale at the carnival for £1.

Pershore Carnival takes place on Monday, May 29.
