GIRLS are being called on to represent the Pershore Plum Festival.

This year the Plum Princess and her attendants will be chosen at the popular Plum Blossom Sunday event on July 2 at The Angel Hotel.

Girls between eight and 11 are wanted for the festival.

The Plum Princess attends numerous events throughout the year including a horse race meeting, bike meet and takes part in welcoming coach parties to name just a few. One task that the reigning princess has to perform is to plant plum trees at her school and the newly created Plum Festival orchard owned by the Vale Heritage Landscape Trust.

This years princess, Caitlin Hall planted a Pershore Emblem tree at Holy Redeemer School in Pershore and a Pershore Yellow Egg Plum at Hipton Hill.

Steve Knight, marketing and events officer at Wychavon said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring princess to take up an ambassadorial role.

"The princess and her attendants are well looked after and chaperoned and each year they comment on what fun they’ve had promoting this internationally famous event."

Application forms are available from The Angel Hotel, Pershore Civic Centre or online at www.pershoreplumfestival.org.uk but applications must be in by Sunday June 18.
