A NEW application has been submitted as the saga over homes near Boat Lane rumbles on.

Councillors opted to defer an application for up to 220 new homes and a care home at land off Boat Lane, Evesham provoking a series of comments in support and in objection on Wychavon District Council's planning website.

Hallam Land Management has now submitted a new plan for up to 200 new homes, open space and a children's play area with the care home plan dropped from the new application after residents claimed it was unnecessary.

There would also be a new community orchard, parking and the expansion of the leisure centre car park.

The applicants have also pledged to build new infrastructure, including cycle and pedestrian footpaths.

Around 40 percent of the homes will be affordable housing.

The plan for 220 homes and a care home previously submitted is still under consideration, with councillors opting to defer it at their last meeting.

They deferred it as they were not sure a care home was needed at the site and because of ongoing traffic issues in the town.

The developers originally submitted plans in December 2016.

The application, which has been delayed three times, has seen criticisms that it would lead to even more gridlock.

This is the third application for the site, with it originally earmarked for 380 houses which has been withdrawn.

A consultation period will be open until Thursday April 19 for residents to make comments.
