Evesham Talking Newspaper recorded its 1000th edition last week as it celebrated 41 years serving the town.

Formed in 1980, the registered charity offers support to residents living with sight disabilities or disabilities which make reading difficult.

The landmark 1000th edition, recorded on Wednesday September 1, featured special guests MP Nigel Huddleston and Andrew Spurr, vicar of Evesham Parish, who were welcomed to the studio in Queens Road to discuss their lives and careers.

Chairman Fran Webb said: “We hope our listeners enjoyed this recording as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

“There were challenges as we are still operating under Covid guidelines allowing a maximum of three persons only in the studio at a time.”

Over the 41 years the Talking Newspaper has seen many changes over the years with recording equipment and studio facilities changing significantly.

Recording was temporarily suspended last year due to the pandemic but was soon back, thanks to the volunteers who help run the service.

Currently recordings take place every three weeks, but it is hoped they will return to their usual fortnightly editions next year. Evesham Talking Newspaper are on the lookout for recording technicians and editors.
