The Pershore Talking Newspaper reached two important milestones this year.

This month, the paper celebrated its 40th anniversary, having recorded the first edition in December 1981, whilst back in the summer the paper recorded its 1000th edition, on July 27.

Some of the original listeners and volunteers are still around.

Current mayor of Pershore Town Council, Julian Palfrey, is a second-generation volunteer with his father being one of the original team.

Councillor Palfrey chose the Pershore Talking Newspaper as his charity of choice during his year in office.

To mark the service’s birthday, councillor Palfrey hosted a celebratory coffee morning at Pershore Town Hall, on Saturday, December 11, complete with birthday cake.

Volunteers, listeners, supporters and friends came together, with over £380 raised for the service.
