The local Police and Crime Commissioner has said he is committed to increasing safety on county roads.

John-Paul Campion, PCC for West Mercia, visited the A46 today, Friday January 7.

The road has been host to a number of fatal and serious crashes in the past few months, prompting local residents and politicians to take action.

PCC Campion said: “I am committed to ensuring the number of those killed and seriously injured on our roads is significantly reduced. Therefore tackling road safety is a key priority, and features heavily in my role as Commissioner.

“The issues that are plaguing those who live along the A46 have been raised directly to my office by residents, so I wanted to play my part. The meeting that took place today, along the area of concern, involved a number of representatives who are equally committed to finding a solution and we will work together to ensure that happens.”

A petition calling for action to make the road safer has now reached over 6,000 signatures whilst last year MPs including Harriett Baldwin and Nigel Huddleston wrote to National Highways demanding action.

Mr Campion met with several groups at the A46 today to discuss the road in question, including representatives from parish councils, National Highways, Worcestershire County Council and West Mercia Police.
