Hundreds of people in Wychavon haven’t paid their council tax.

Wychavon District Council has filed charges against 249 people who have not paid taxes.

There is also multiple cases of people not paying business rates.

A total of 64 defendants have been charged with non-payment of non-domestic rates.

These rates are taxes charged on properties outside of the council’s boundaries that help pay for local services.

This can include properties such as shops, offices, pubs, warehouses, factories and holiday rental homes.

Business rates are worked out based on a property’s “rateable value”.

This is the properties open market rental value on April 1, 2015, based on an estimate by the Valuation Office Agency.
