A long-awaited restoration of a historic site in Evesham has finally been completed.
The Vale of Evesham Civic Society (VECS) has undertaken improvement works to the Bengeworth Fountain area, by the roundabout at the end of Port Street.
A scheme to develop the “run-down” area has been in the works for over five years, a society spokesperson said.
Improvements made to the area include the installation of an information panel, the return of the granite drinking trough from the Almonry Garden, a new bench and a new litter bin.
Funding for the work was provided by a range of sources, including divisional funds from current and previous county councillors for Bengeworth and funds from the Civic Society’s reserves.
Worcester County Council’s highways parish team supplied the concrete bases for the trough and seat.
Meanwhile, Wychavon District Council provided a grant for moving the trough and supplied the litter bin and Evesham Town Council paid for the information panel.
To celebrate the completion, representatives from all of the funding organisations gathered for a group photo.
Also in attendance was Sue Lindsay, descendant of Henry Burlingham, an Evesham resident responsible for providing the original drinking fountain and trough in 1884.
