A Cotswold foodbank is at risk of running out of food and toiletries.

Reverend Shellie Ward has issued a desperate plea after Broadway Community Drop-in Foodbank found itself running out of supplies.

A few years ago, all of the churches in the village came together to launch HOPE – Help One Person Eat – and last Christmas the project helped support 35 families in Broadway.

However, with costs of energy, rent, petrol and food all on the rise, more help was needed and so a foodbank was opened at St Michael’s Church.

On the Monday and Tuesday following the third Sunday of each month, the foodbank opens from 11am to 2pm to allow people in the village drop in for a hot drink and pick up some food.

Speaking before opening on Monday, October 17, Revd Ward warned that they may not be able to continue supporting those in need due to a lack of supplies.

She said: “We need your help now… We’re running low on everything and still have tonight and tomorrow to be open.

“We may run out of food and toiletries.

“If you’re thinking of donating, please do as soon as possible so we can help those in our village that need our support."

She added: “Thank you for your continued support to help those in our village who need ‘HOPE’.

“Over the coming months this support will be needed more than ever and those coming just need a bit of extra help.

“We don’t want anyone to go without food.

“The Foodbank is there for anyone in our village who needs a little help with essentials.”

Donations to the foodbank can be made by either taking items directly to the church or via the foodbank baskets at the COOP on Russel Square.

The foodbank is also able to offer petrol vouchers in “exceptional cases”, with applications reviewed by Revd Ward.
