A CAR fire on a busy road in Evesham required 1500 litres of water to help fight the fire.

The Evesham safer neighbourhood policing team posted on social media that they are helping with a vehicle fire on the A46 Evesham bypass.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said that the car was found "well-alight" on arrival.

They said: "We were called at 11.55am to a 4x4 well alight on the southbound carriageway of the A46.

"There are two crews from Evesham in attendance using two hose reel jets and foam to fight the fire.

"It has now been extinguished but dampening down is still in progress. About 1500 litres of water was used to tackle the fire.

"Crews are still in attendance."

West Midlands Ambulance Service is not in attendance.

According to National Highways, the road is still closed with just over a mile of congestion on approach.
