A youth club has issued a last-ditch plea for help.

Evesham Sea Cadets will host an “extraordinary” meeting this month in a bid to save the unit.

William Elliott, business support manager for the South West Area Sea Cadets, has penned a letter to locals to ask for their support.

“I am writing to you on behalf of the charity as a last attempt to seek your support for Evesham Unit,” it read.

With around 40 members, Evesham Sea Cadets is an independent registered charity and relies heavily on funding and support from volunteers.

It also has to have a board of trustees in place who manage the charity.

The management team must meet at least every other month and are primarily responsible for the fundraising, facilities and safety of cadet activities.

However, a lack of volunteers for the management team has put the Evesham unit’s future in doubt.

“Evesham Unit’s management team is now operating with minimal volunteer numbers, particularly trustees,” the letter continued.

“This meeting has been called on the hope that new volunteers will come forward to form a management team and secure the future of the charity.

“Should the unit not be able to form a management team in accordance with charity commission requirements at this meeting, the unit will be at risk of closure.”

The meeting will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, January 18, at the Sea Cadets’ centre on Shinehill Lane in South Littleton.

“I hope you will be able to attend the meeting and help secure the future of the unit,” the letter concluded.

“I am sure you will agree the closure of the Sea Cadet unit would be a great loss not only to the local community but most of all, to the cadets who attend.”
