THE people of Pershore have funded new generators for a bombed-out Ukrainian city.

Almost £3,000 has been raised to purchase eight generators which are now on their way to Lviv.

On Monday, January 9, the generators were taken off to Ukraine by the Warwick-based charity Healing Hands Network.

Upon arrival, they will be distributed by the NGO Stay Safe Ukraine from their Lviv warehouse.

“Thank you so much,” said a spokesperson for Healing Hands.

“This will make a huge difference to many people who otherwise would really struggle to survive the harsh winter of Ukraine let alone the war.”

In total £2,975 was raised through Go Fund Me, with most of the donations coming from local individuals keen to help Ukrainian families during the tough winter months.

Other contributions came from Pershore Foodbank volunteers, local council representatives and Pershore Rotary Club, which made a direct donation to the Healing Hands Network.

Sue Stratton, founder and director of the Healing Hands Network, organised the appeal with help from a number of Pershore residents.

Last year, Healing Hands sent a convoy of vehicles holding humanitarian, medical and surgical supplies to the war-torn country before a pre-Christmas convoy delivered gifts to children who had been made homeless by the Russian invasion.

Evesham-based charity Teams4u also sent over Christmas presents, having collected thousands of shoeboxes filled with gifts at its Davies Road warehouse.

After handing out over 2,000 boxes in the county of Bihor in Western Romania, the team of warehouse volunteers travelled north across the Ruskova River to Poienile de sub Munte, just 20 minutes from the border with Ukraine.

There, they handed out around 800 shoeboxes to children, some of whom had never received such a gift before.

Once back in Oradea City in Romania, the remaining shoeboxes were given out to homeless families and individuals supported by Raul Gherle, one of Teams4u’s overseas partners.

Anyone still wishing to contribute to Healing Hands’ Ukraine appeal can do so by visiting Go Fund Me and searching ‘Healing hands Network’.
