A partially sighted woman has raised concerns about damp and mould in her home.

Helen Smith says her son has developed chest infections after living in a Rooftop-managed home for the past five months.

However, the housing association says it has visited the home and Mrs Smith, 57, and found no evidence of damp or mould.

Mrs Smith said: “It’s been difficult.

“I will do anything to get it fixed, I’m quite houseproud but because of the mould and damp, I can’t move forward.

“If I had known it was this bad I would never have taken it.

“I first rang up Rooftop when I moved. Nothing got done and I’ve been ringing up ever since.

“Why hasn’t anything been done?”

Mrs Smith and her son James, 26, moved into the property on Laburnum Drive last November.

She says she has spent the last five months trying repeatedly to get Rooftop Housing Group to fix various issues including damp, mould, broken lights and faulty heating when they first moved in.

However, Lisa Nicholls, executive director of operations at Rooftop, says they visited Mrs Smith earlier this week and confirmed there is no damp.

“As a housing provider we have a responsibility to provide reliable landlords services that includes ensuring that repairs and maintenance is completed on time to set standards,” she said.

"Following reports of repairs and damp/mould, we have visited Helen at home and identified some minor repairs that will be completed as soon as possible.

“During our visit we also confirmed that there is no damp or mould-related issues in this property.

“We will continue to remain in contact with our tenant until all repairs are completed.

"Rooftop Housing Group is committed to working with our customers to resolve issues and will act on any learning to continually improve service delivery."
