A LIFE-LONG football fan is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for a charity close to his heart.
Former Evesham United player-manager Ben Homans has set out to raise £10,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
He started fundraising after his grandfather was diagnosed with the disease
“Prostate Cancer affects 1 in 8 men,” Ben said.
“My Grandad is still here today due to the help he received.
“Prostate Cancer UK is a charity that is close to my heart and I can luckily say, my Grandad is a survivor!”
Ben, a bank manager from Tewkesbury, spent four years as a player-manager for Evesham United’s Sunday team.
His fundraising efforts began in 2018.
Each year he hosts a charity football match, and he has so far raised £8,300.
He is hoping this year’s match will see him reach the £10,000 mark.
The match will see FC Homans take on Men United on Sunday (June 4), a 4pm kick-off at Redditch United’s Trico Stadium.
Alongside the match, Ben has secured sporting items which are to be auctioned off.
He has received donations from a range of football teams, from Redditch United to Premier League runners-up Arsenal.
Further information can be found at homanscfma.weebly.com, which will soon be updated for the 2023 auction.
