Millions of pounds worth of extra income has been secured for tenants by a housing association.

Platform Housing Group's successful tenancies team of advisers have helped to secure over £2 million of additional income for customers in a bid to help maintain their tenancies, maximise income, and reduce spending where possible.

This comes amid the ongoing cost of living crisis and a surge in the price of everyday essentials.

In the year 2022-23, the team experienced a 16% increase in referrals compared to the previous year, climbing to a total of 6,317.

This led to over £2 million being secured for customers who found themselves in severe financial difficulty.

One such customer, Sharon, a part-time worker and lone parent to a child with behavioural issues, said: "I'm so grateful for the support I received from Platform and can't believe the difference it’s made to me and my daughter."

After a benefits check revealed a number of unclaimed entitlements, Sharon was able to secure extra monthly income, allowing her to sustain her tenancy and provide for her daughter.

Platform's director of Platform Hub and income management, Michael Bruce said: "Like the majority of support services across the country, Platform continues to see an increase in customers needing our help due to the cost of living and we’re committed to supporting them through these difficult times."

Bruce also touched upon the fear customers often feel about asking for help, saying: "We’re here to ensure that our customers can get the support they need and to help them claim the benefits they’re entitled to, so they can sleep a little easier at night."
