HUNDREDS of Catholics from across the West Midlands converged on Evesham at the weekend for the annual pilgrimage to Our Lady of Evesham.
Following a procession from St Lawrence's Church to the Abbey grounds, Bishop David McGough, an auxiliary Bishop from the Archdiocese of Birmingham led a concelebrated Mass.
Local schoolchildren and knights and dames of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, together with clergy from across the archdiocese were involved in the event which marked the sighting of the Virgin Mary by the swineheard Eof and the Bishop of Worcester which led to the Abbey being built.
A statue of Our Lady of Evesham was carried on the shoulder of four of the worshippers and was crowned with flowers by Fr Christopher Draycott, parish priest of St Mary's and St Egwin's church in Evesham High Street.
